Nat Elected as Member of Council for Wakefield

I’ve taken on a few new roles this month which will hopefully influence how HATCH operates within the tough political landscapes ahead!

I was elected by the residents of Wakefield East Ward to be their local Elected Member of Council (Cllr), meaning that I will spend time supporting my community in Wakefield. This will involve listening to residents, working with council officers to address local issues and representing the voice of residents to the Council.

I’ve also been appointed as the Deputy Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Sport for Wakefield. It is a privilege to take up this role in Wakefield, and means I can draw on my working knowledge of the culture sector to support and be a critical friend to the fantastic team at Wakefield Council. It is my role to help drive ambition and keep the team accountable to the people of Wakefield. Having worked in the sector for over twenty years, working hard to engage councillors across the country in the cultural life of their area – sometimes successfully, sometimes with difficulty – it’s time to walk a mile in their shoes and be part of making change.

Wakefield Councils Culture, Leisure and Sport team are currently celebrating their year of culture – Our Year – with hundreds of activities and projects happening across the district. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in with the team to deliver this ambitious programme, and to ensure there is lasting legacy.
